Gray cast iron

Depending on the cooling rate after solidification, the cast iron may have a ferritic, ferritic-pearlitic and pure pearlitic structure. As the cooling rate increases, the percentage of perlite increases, and hence the strength of cast iron, but its ductility decreases.
